What is the New Homes Quality Code?
First published in December 2021, and made mandatory from November of 2022, the New Homes Quality Code looks to guarantee a minimum level of transparency when it comes to the selling and purchasing of newly built homes.
When you buy a new home, there’s a certain level of quality control you should expect, and the NHQC reviews and updates what the minimum standard should be. A much-needed reform in our opinion, when it comes to the modern housing industry.
The New Homes Quality Code primarily does this by strengthening the protections customers are entitled to, doing so in the following ways:
- It protects your deposit
- It protects you from hidden costs.
- It protects your reservation – via a fair reservation agreement
- It protects you and your family from moving into a new home before it’s fully completed, and pressure tested – allowing you to also carry out a pre-completion inspection if you so wish
- It guarantees you a certain standard of after care
Why is the New Homes Quality Code important?
The New Homes Quality Code is important because it keeps us, as the developers, accountable.
